How do I know if there's a crack in my heat exchanger?

Pilot-style furnaces were last manufactured in 1993 and were not considered to be very safe. The new electronic furnaces are very safe and have a lot of safeguards built in to make sure they stay safe. If you have a pilot-style or ANY older furnace it should be inspected by a certified A/C technician every Fall to make sure it is safe to operate. Also, getting a carbon monoxide detector installed in your home, near your bedrooms is always a good idea.
