Why does my air conditioner run continually? Why does my air conditioner never shut off?
- Category: AC / Heating Repair Question and Answer
If the indoor blower runs continually, first make sure the thermostat FAN switch is set to "AUTO" and not to "ON". Setting the fan to fan "ON" will make the blower run continually, and setting it to "AUTO" ensures it will only run when the air conditioner or heater is operating. If your fan is set to "AUTO" and the blower never shuts off even when the thermostat is satisfied you need to call your air conditioning company to have the problem properly diagnosed. If the outdoor unit is running continually, even when the indoor blower shuts off you may have a stuck contactor or other issue and will need to call a certified a/c technician to properly diagnose the situation.
